A Tribute to Our Beloved Father:
A Legacy of Music and Heart
Our late father’s music career began in the vibrant 1960s, an era of passion, artistry, and community spirit. Immersing himself wholeheartedly in the world of music, he quickly made his mark by competing in prestigious venues like the City Hall and the Vedic Hall. His dedication and talent shone brightly as he consistently achieved first place in the male vocal and solo trumpet categories. Each performance was a testament to his love for music and his drive to excel.
Dad’s musical journey, however, was far more than a series of competitions. In addition to his accolades, he was a cherished guest of the Kashi Orchestra, where he lent his powerful voice to the Christian musical tradition as well play the trumpet.
Singing in Venaular, he brought a unique warmth and resonance that touched all who listened. His talent extended beyond singing; he was also an integral member of the Manoghari Orchestra, where he showcased his skill on the trumpet, captivating audiences with his performances.
One of his proudest achievements was founding his own music group, Aruljothie Parathnay Kootum, based in Newlands. This group, a beloved part of the local music scene, brought people together and competed with great pride at the Vedic Hall. Through Aruljothie Parathnay Kootum, he nurtured a sense of camaraderie, spreading the joy of music throughout the community he loved so dearly.
His career was sadly cut short in 1972, a year that would have marked a decade of his remarkable achievements. But his legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward the musical gifts he passed down. Known and respected in Newlands and Parlock in Durban South Africa, Dad was not only an extraordinary musician but also a humble, kind-hearted soul who touched the lives of all who knew him.
We remember him not just for his music but for the legacy of compassion, humility, and love that he left behind. His memory remains a guiding light, inspiring us to honor his legacy in our own lives.
